Join us to hear Margie Nichols, retired vice chancellor for communications and marketing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, who will share stories and discuss the strategy behind the university’s rebranding.

Nichols led the campus through a successful branding campaign, an effort that helped to infuse orange into the campus culture and present UT Knoxville’s brand with unity and consistency behind the Power T logo.

She served UT Knoxville as vice chancellor for more than seven years, overseeing media and internal relations, creative communications, video and photography, and WUOT-FM, the community’s National Public Radio station. In the words of former Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek, Nichols “provided the strong leadership needed to enhance the university’s national reputation. She has helped to tell the best stories about our university and dramatically improved our communication with students, faculty and staff.”

Nichols began her service at UT in 2007 as chief of staff to former president John Petersen and was appointed vice chancellor in 2008. Before coming to the university, she was senior director of communications and government relations for then–Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam.

She also has 26 years of experience in television news, including service as the news director at Knoxville’s WBIR-TV. She began her career in television in Memphis, then moved to Nashville, winning national awards for her work as an investigative reporter.
